About Bayport, NY
In 1697, William Nicoll III, a wealthy Englishman from a prominent Islip family, purchased a vast area of land that would later include the town of Bayport. After his passing, his son divided and sold portions of the land, leading to the arrival of new families and the growth of farms and businesses. As the community expanded, Bayport began to thrive as a center of local commerce and agriculture.
By 1860, the hamlet was home to more than 75 families, and in 1869, the Bayport railroad station was built. The arrival of the railroad played a crucial role in the town’s development, facilitating the transport of goods and commerce while also transforming Bayport into a popular summer resort destination for New York City residents. Over time, Bayport grew into a vibrant community, maintaining its historic charm while evolving into a desirable residential area.
